Kogi Slashes Workers’ Salary By 40%

In order to be able to meet its obligations to the people of Kogi State, the state government has slashed workers’ salary by 40 per cent.

The Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to the governor, Mr Jacob Edi, in a signed statement made available to newsmen in Lokoja, on Tuesday, added that the development became imperative in view of the dwindling monthly federal allocation.

The state government reportedly received the sum of N3.7 billion in March, while it got N2.5 billion this month, with monthly wage bill of N3.2 billion.

However, with the shortfall, the statement disclosed that workers in grade level 7 and above, the state commissioners, special Advisers and all appointed officials would have their salaries slashed by forty per cent. He added that staff on grade level 1-6 were not affected by the reduction.

It said that the state government would only be able to pay salary of all workers as a result of the reduction, believing that it was better than owing workers months of unpaid salaries.
